the doorstep

What is an object? What is it that I am reaching for, what is it that I have reached, even after I have managed to seize it? What kind of access to the world does this relation to the object give me? This exhibition gathers the work of artists who share in common a desire to interrogate the nature of objects and the way they are perceived. When artists position their objects between themselves and the world, this is in itself an attempt to grasp it. Here, we will be confronted by a particular object, which can seem impenetrable even if familiar. Something that we will not call “still life”, at least not yet, since the object, thus placed and perceived, may be endowed with an additional quality—an inner life.
